Trance is a state of consciousness with an internal focus of attention.
Trance is a type of state known as "downtime" in NLP.
- Downtime is when you are predominantly paying attention to the internal world.
- Uptime is when you are predominantly paying attention to the external world.
Trance indicators:
- Muscle relaxation
- Deeper voice quality
- Relaxed facial muscles
- Slower pulse and breathing
- Changed eye accessing
- Lost or slowed reflexes
- A subjective feeling of comfort
- The brain neurotransmitter acetylcholine dominates rather than norepinephrine
- An EEG will show dominant theta waves.
- The following may also occur:
Amnesia
Anaesthesia
Hallucination
Catalepsy
Regression
Time distortion - Everyday trance:
Inward focus
Meditating
Relaxing
Fantasizing
Planning
Worry
Mental "fugues"
Hurt or shock
